We built the app first. Then we found out what it was for.
A small Bengaluru team building everything a preschool needs, so every child gets the best possible start.
How we got here
Starkid began as software for preschools — attendance, photos, messages, fees. It worked. Teachers liked it. Parents opened it every day.
“Our curriculum provider already gives us an app”
Then we sat in front of eleven preschools, and ten of them said the same thing. That's when we understood the business we were actually in. Schools don't shop for software. They shop for curriculum, and the software arrives attached.
Anyone can write a curriculum
What almost nobody has is somewhere to put it — an app a teacher already opens every morning, that parents already trust, that knows every child's name, class and photo. It turned out we had the harder half already.
We started from what India already decided
So we built the curriculum into it. Not by inventing one, but by starting from what India's own education framework says a three-year-old should learn. Then the workbooks that map to it, page by page. Then, because a school owner is buying from six vendors every March anyway, everything else.
Independent, without being alone
We're a small team in Bengaluru. What we're trying to do is simple: make it easy for an independent preschool to be as good as a branded one, without giving up its name.
“The app was never the product. It's the reason the product works.
